Moments in the District

About the District

Established by the city of Oakland in November of 2023, the Lakeshore LGBTQ Cultural District is home to the beautiful and vibrant Grand Lake neighborhood at the northwest corner of Lake Merritt, where Grand Avenue and Lakeshore Avenue pass under Interstate 580.

The Lakeshore LGBTQ district has a multi-block, triangular shaped boundary that includes Lake Park, Lakeshore, Grand Ave. and stretches back to Mandana

Mission

Our mission is to create a historically identifiable LGBTQ+ neighborhood in Oakland that is safe, welcoming, vibrant, and inclusive. We aim to foster a community where residents and visitors can live freely and proudly, support and uplift local businesses, and preserve Oakland’s rich LGBTQ history and ongoing fight for justice and equity.

Community

Our goal is to spotlight local businesses and special events throughout the district, cultivating prosperity and long-term growth while increasing visibility for the community. We share authentic stories that raise awareness and celebrate the people, culture, and experiences that make our community vibrant and thriving.

District Committee

Meet the dedicated individuals who guide and support the Lakeshore LGBTQ Cultural District. Our committee works to foster an inclusive, vibrant, and thriving community while championing local businesses, events, and the rich history that defines our district.
